Background

The organization traces its roots to the Center for Energy and Economic Development (CEED), founded in 1992, and Americans for Balanced Energy Choices (ABEC), formed in 2000. The two merged in April 2008 to create the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE), a 501(c)(6) trade group representing over 40 companies across coal production, power generation, transportation, and equipment manufacturing. In 2009, ACCCE faced a significant controversy when a lobbying subcontractor it had hired, Bonner & Associates, was found to have sent forged letters to members of Congress — falsely attributed to minority and senior citizen organizations — urging votes against the Waxman-Markey climate bill; ACCCE learned of the forgeries before the House vote but did not notify lawmakers until weeks later. The group subsequently rebranded its public advocacy arm as 'America's Power' and eventually adopted that as its full organizational name. Michelle Bloodworth serves as President and CEO. The organization publishes opinion pieces, blog posts, and policy commentary at americaspower.org under the 'Power Blog' and 'Opinion' sections, consistently arguing that coal-fired generation is essential for grid reliability and national security. Since January 2025, America's Power has publicly welcomed Trump administration initiatives including the National Energy Emergency declaration, executive orders directing coal power purchase agreements at military installations, and federal investment in existing and new coal plants — aligning its editorial voice closely with the administration's energy posture.
