Background
Justin Raimondo and Eric Garris founded Antiwar.com on December 24, 1995, in response to the Bosnian war. It began as an independent, ad-supported website. It later became affiliated with the Center for Libertarian Studies and now operates under that group's Randolph Bourne Institute, based in Atherton, California. Raimondo was a prominent libertarian and paleoconservative writer. He wrote a long-running column for the site until his death in 2019. The site runs a daily news feed, which Dave DeCamp edits, along with original commentary and a blog. Contributors come from the libertarian right, the anti-war left, and realist foreign policy scholars such as John Mearsheimer. Its core view is that U.S. military action abroad is costly, often illegitimate, and driven by political and corporate interests. It opposed the Iraq war, the Afghanistan war, and U.S. involvement in Libya, Syria, and Ukraine.
