Both are rated 'lean left' by third-party media-bias analysts and present themselves as fact-focused and independent. Both came into direct conflict with the second Trump administration: AP was barred from White House pool coverage for refusing to adopt 'Gulf of America,' and PBS NewsHour lost its federal funding stream after Congress defunded the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 2025.
