BNN Bloomberg
Canadian business news, market-oriented center
Background
The channel began as Report on Business Television, licensed in 1996 and launched in 1999 by The Globe and Mail and partners. CanWest Global bought it in 2000, and Bell Globemedia (later CTVglobemedia) took it over that same year. It was rebranded as BNN (Business News Network) in 2007. Bell Canada regained control of CTVglobemedia in 2011, and the company became Bell Media. On January 9, 2018, Bell Media announced a licensing and content agreement with Bloomberg L.P. The channel was rebranded BNN Bloomberg on April 30, 2018, and the deal gave it rights to Bloomberg television and radio content in Canada. Its programming mixes Canadian market and economic coverage with Bloomberg's international reporting. The editorial perspective is that of a mainstream, market-focused business outlet, generally favoring investor and business interests rather than a partisan position. Coverage of Trump-era policy is framed mainly through its effects on Canadian trade, tariffs and markets. This profile relies on public descriptions of the outlet's ownership and history. It is not a systematic content analysis of recent coverage, and I did not find evidence of changes to the arrangement in 2026.
