Bureau of Economic Analysis

The Bureau of Economic Analysis is a nonpartisan federal statistical agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, funded entirely by congressional appropriations. It produces official economic statistics — most notably U.S. GDP — used by policymakers, businesses, and researchers. During the second Trump term, the administration has proposed changes to BEA's GDP methodology and canceled at least one scheduled GDP release, raising concerns among economists about political pressure on the agency's independence.
