Business Recorder
Pakistani, privately owned business daily
Background
Business Recorder was launched on 27 April 1965 in Karachi by M.A. Zuberi, a veteran journalist who had worked at Dawn since before Partition. It is described as Pakistan's first newspaper devoted to finance and economics. It has stayed under the control of the Zuberi family, with Wamiq Zuberi as editor and group chief executive. Over time it expanded from a Karachi paper into editions covering Lahore and Islamabad, and it now runs a large website (brecorder.com) with news, markets, opinion and commodity coverage. Its editorial perspective is pro-market, favouring investment, trade liberalisation and fiscal discipline. Coverage centres on the budget, the IMF programme, the stock exchange, trade and commodities. I did not find a major documented scandal or ownership change in my research, but that was a limited search and not an exhaustive review. In 2026 its coverage of the second Trump administration has been mostly news-driven and focused on Pakistan. Examples include reports on new U.S. tariffs, including a 10% forced-labour tariff that covers Pakistan, on U.S.-Pakistan diplomacy, and on U.S. immigration actions. Its opinion pages have run pieces warning that Trump's tariffs could hurt Pakistan and add to inflation, but the news reporting is largely descriptive rather than openly partisan.
