On the administrationmostly neutral

Background

KGAN began broadcasting in Cedar Rapids in the 1950s as a CBS affiliate. Sinclair acquired it in 1999 as part of its purchase of Guy Gannett Communications' stations. Sinclair took over most operations of KFXA (Fox 28) in 2002 and bought its assets other than the license in 2008. The two stations share studios on Old Marion Road NE in Cedar Rapids. Fox programming moved to a KGAN subchannel on New Year's Day 2021, and the stations have used the shared 'Iowa's News Now' branding. In May 2025 Sinclair filed to buy KFXA's license for $1.9 million, and in May 2026 it named Kevin Beard vice president and general manager. The station's own record is mostly routine local news, but its parent has drawn controversy, including a 2018 criticism of must-run scripted segments from corporate and the use of corporate-mandated commentary segments. Critics have called Sinclair's national content right-leaning, while the company says its stations serve local audiences. Local coverage at KGAN itself is generally straightforward and community-focused. This profile is based on a limited set of sources, and I could not independently verify specific recent coverage of the administration.
