Background

ClimateRealism (climaterealism.com) is a Heartland Institute site that publishes articles rebutting mainstream media and scientific claims about climate change. Its regular contributors include Heartland staff such as Linnea Lueken and other Heartland fellows. Heartland also produces "The Climate Realism Show," a weekly livestream featuring Anthony Watts, H. Sterling Burnett and Lueken. Watts runs the climate-skeptic blog Watts Up With That, and Heartland has supported some of his projects. Heartland itself has long argued that human-caused warming is exaggerated or not a crisis, and it has drawn criticism from scientists and journalists over that position. It has also drawn scrutiny for past funding from fossil-fuel-linked donors and for controversial campaigns, such as its 2012 billboard comparing climate believers to the Unabomber. Heartland hosts an annual climate conference, and its 2026 event near the White House celebrated the rollbacks under EPA chief Lee Zeldin. The site's perspective is consistently skeptical of climate alarm and favors fossil fuels and deregulation, and it presents these views as "realism" (a self-label). In 2026 it published Heartland statements praising Trump's February announcement to repeal the endangerment finding and the EPA's repeal of power-plant greenhouse gas limits. It also published a June 2026 piece accusing bureaucrats of sabotaging the repeal.
