Background

The Conservative Treehouse, also called 'The Last Refuge,' was established around February 2011 by a blogger writing under the pseudonym 'Sundance,' believed by multiple news outlets to be Florida resident Mark Bradman, though this has never been officially confirmed. The site first drew wide national attention for its extensive coverage of the 2012–2013 Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case, during which Sundance used the alias 'Sundance Cracker' and the blog attracted millions of readers. It became a significant hub of pro-Trump populist commentary during Trump's 2016 campaign, building a loyal following with long-form investigative posts and analysis that portrayed the political establishment and mainstream media as adversaries of ordinary Americans. Media Bias/Fact Check rates the site 'Extreme Right' with 'Low' factual reporting, and FactCheck.org has included it in its misinformation-tracking directory; the site has failed multiple independent fact checks and drawn criticism for publishing unverified conspiracy theories. In November 2020, WordPress.com notified the site to migrate to a new host, citing terms-of-service violations linked to false or misleading content — including claims about the COVID-19 pandemic — and the site moved to independent hosting, characterizing the removal as political censorship. The site subsequently lost most display-ad revenue after refusing to enforce Google's content-moderation standards in its comment section, shifting to a voluntary reader-donation model. A post published in February 2026 marked the site's fifteenth anniversary. Throughout Trump's second term, the site has continued its established pattern of strong, consistent support for Trump's policies, personnel, and political agenda.
