Background

Daily Sabah published its first issue on 24 February 2014 as the English-language sibling of the Turkish daily Sabah. It is part of Turkuvaz Media Group, which also includes ATV and other outlets. Sabah was long held by other owners before Turkuvaz took it over. After the state seized the group in 2013, Çalık Holding bought it in 2008 and Kalyon Group bought it in 2013. The Çalık Holding period was led by Berat Albayrak, who later became Erdoğan's son-in-law and a cabinet minister. Press-freedom groups and media-bias raters describe the Turkuvaz outlets as pro-government 'pool media.' Daily Sabah's coverage of Turkish politics tends to back President Erdoğan and the AKP, and it often criticizes opponents such as the Gülen movement and the PKK. Its international coverage reflects Ankara's priorities, with a focus on Gaza, Syria, Islamophobia and Western policy toward Turkey. On the second Trump administration, it has covered Trump's 'Board of Peace' launch in January 2026 in a mostly straightforward way. In March 2026 it ran a report citing CAIR on Trump's protest and immigration policies as fueling Islamophobia, so its coverage is not uniformly supportive.
