The Daily Signal
U.S. right (conservative)
Background
The Daily Signal launched in June 2014 as the Heritage Foundation's multimedia news arm. Its stated aim was to reach audiences beyond the mainstream press with conservative-oriented reporting and commentary. Rob Bluey was its founding editor-in-chief and now serves as president, and Katrina Trinko is editor-in-chief. In 2024, Heritage's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to spin the outlet off, and it became an independent organization with its own board and leadership. It describes itself as supported by audience donations and philanthropic grants, and it still often covers Heritage and its initiatives, such as the 2026 'Golden Age' campaign. Media Bias/Fact Check rates it Right-biased with Mixed factual reporting, citing story selection and editorial positions that favor the right, and its departures from scientific consensus on human-caused climate change. Its coverage in recent weeks includes opinion and news pieces that frame administration figures such as Secretary of State Rubio favorably, and it is often republished by other conservative sites. Heritage itself faced internal turmoil in late 2025 over its president's defense of Tucker Carlson's interview with Nick Fuentes. This was a Heritage matter, not a Daily Signal one, but it shows the conservative movement context in which the outlet operates.
