Darfur24 was founded in April 2016 as an electronic news network dedicated to covering the Darfur region, which has historically been underserved by Sudanese national media. The outlet describes itself as independent of all political parties and armed factions, guided by international journalism standards. During Sudan's pre-2019 al-Bashir era, its journalists faced arrests, security summons, and press freedom violations. After Sudan's April 2023 civil war broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Darfur24 became one of few outlets consistently covering atrocities and displacement in Darfur.
