DCReport
U.S. left-center
Background
DCReport launched in January 2017, explicitly positioning itself as a watchdog outlet for the first Trump administration. It was co-founded by David Cay Johnston — a Pulitzer Prize winner (2001) who spent 13 years at The New York Times and wrote 'The Making of Donald Trump' and 'The Big Cheat' — along with veteran journalists David Crook and Adam Leipzig. From 2019 to 2021, Raw Story partnered with DCReport, providing funding in exchange for original investigative content on financial regulation, taxes, and corruption. The site declined advertising from the start, relying instead on reader donations to preserve editorial independence. In January 2023, management of DCReport transferred to the Next Echo Foundation, a nonprofit that also publishes the arts and culture magazine Cultural Daily. Media Bias/Fact Check rates DCReport as left-center in bias with a high factual reporting score, noting a clear critical orientation toward Trump-era policies while citing accurate sourcing. Coverage during Trump's second term (from January 2025 onward) has continued to emphasize executive power, press access restrictions, and economic policy, consistent with the outlet's founding mission.
