Background

Deadline Hollywood was founded in 2006 by Nikki Finke, who built its reputation on aggressive scoops and a combative tone. Mail.com Media bought it in 2009, and Penske Media Corporation took over later that year. Finke left in 2013, and Nellie Andreeva and Mike Fleming Jr. then served as co-editors in chief. In January 2026, Andreeva became sole editor in chief, and Fleming moved to an editor-at-large role. Its coverage centers on box office, studio deals, TV development and awards campaigns, and it is widely read in the industry. Critics have sometimes said trade outlets lean on industry sources and publicists, and that heavy awards-season advertising creates commercial ties to the studios they cover. Its political coverage is mostly news-driven and focuses on industry effects: Trump's proposed movie-import tariffs, and the Kennedy Center's planned closure and its dispute over Trump's name on the building.
