Delaware LIVE
U.S. center to center-right (local, business-oriented)
Background
Chris Kenny, longtime head of Delaware's ShopRite supermarket chain, launched Delaware LIVE News in 2020 as a free statewide digital outlet meant to compete with the legacy News Journal. The operation grew into a small network of local sites, including Milford LIVE and Town Square Delaware, covering Kent and Sussex counties and Wilmington-area business and government news. From its founding until late 2024, the company's CEO was Bryan Shupe, a sitting Republican state representative from Milford, who stepped down amid a company reorganization that returned day-to-day leadership to Kenny; longtime editor-in-chief Betsy Price also stepped back to part-time writing around the same time. Kenny is separately the founder of A Better Delaware, a self-described 'non-partisan' advocacy group that in practice has pushed a conservative-leaning policy agenda (opposing minimum-wage increases and certain tax hikes) and backed conservative candidates through an affiliated PAC, which gives the outlet's ownership a discernible political lean even though the newsroom itself is not branded as opinion journalism. Media Bias/Fact Check rates Delaware LIVE as 'Least Biased' with 'High' factual reporting and high credibility, citing balanced story selection and minimal editorializing. The outlet's coverage is overwhelmingly local (Delaware state government, business, schools, and community news), so it has a limited direct track record on national Trump-administration coverage; when it does touch federal politics, its house reporting has generally stayed close to straight news rather than overt advocacy, though its ownership's other ventures signal a business-friendly, center-right orientation.
