E&E News
U.S. center-left (trade/policy press)
Background
Founded in 1998 (initially as Environment & Energy Publishing) by Kevin Braun and Michael Witt, E&E News built a reputation among policy professionals for granular, subscription-based coverage of energy, climate, and environmental regulation through titles like Greenwire, Climatewire, Energywire, E&E Daily, and E&E News PM. Politico acquired the company in 2020, later folding it into the Politico Pro intelligence platform after Axel Springer bought Politico in 2021. The outlet has more than 65 reporters and editors and is respected for high factual accuracy, per independent media-bias trackers, though those same trackers note a left-of-center framing tendency in story selection and tone. In 2018, E&E News was one of several outlets (along with the AP and CNN) barred by the EPA from a Trump-administration summit on water contaminants, a episode critics cited as an example of press-access tension between the outlet and that administration. It functions primarily as specialized policy journalism for lobbyists, regulators, and industry, rather than a mass-market outlet with an overt partisan agenda.
