Background

EducationNC was founded in 2014 by veteran North Carolina journalist Ferrel Guillory and philanthropist Gerry Hancock as an independent outlet devoted to state education coverage, growing out of earlier efforts including the nonprofit's original incorporation as Emerging Tar Heel Leaders, Inc. Mebane Rash has led the organization for most of its history as CEO, president, and editor-in-chief.
