European Rubber Journal
UK-based industry trade, no political orientation
Background
The publication dates to 1884, when it was founded as India-Rubber Journal by Abraham Kingdon & Co. of Moorfields, London. In 1900 it was sold to Maclaren and Sons of Glasgow for £750. Maclaren shortened the name to Rubber Journal in 1955 and then to Rubber Journal and International Plastics in 1958. In 1967, as the United Kingdom was preparing to join what became the European Union, Maclaren rebranded it as European Rubber Journal. Crain Communications, the Detroit-based B2B media company, purchased it from Maclaren in 1981 and ran it for four decades as part of its portfolio of industrial trade titles. On February 5, 2021, NUERJ Ltd. acquired the title from Crain, returning it to independent ownership. Throughout its history the publication has maintained a narrowly technical and commercial focus: it covers market intelligence, corporate strategy, materials science, and regulatory developments relevant to the global rubber and tire industries, and does not engage in partisan political commentary.
