Background

Fierce Network's roots trace to FierceMarkets, a Washington, D.C.-based B2B e-newsletter company founded around 2000 by Jeff Giesea. FierceMarkets built a portfolio of targeted industry newsletters, including Fierce Wireless and Fierce Telecom, which became well-regarded trade publications covering wireless carriers, spectrum policy, network infrastructure, and telecom regulation. Questex Media Group acquired FierceMarkets in January 2008, folding the Fierce titles into its broader B2B media portfolio. In 2018, New York-based private equity firm MidOcean Partners acquired Questex in a deal valued at approximately $180 million. In April 2024, Questex consolidated Fierce Telecom, Fierce Wireless, and its cloud-focused Silverlinings publication into a unified platform called Fierce Network, with editorial vision credited to Stephen M. Saunders (MBE) — also known as the founder of telecom news site Light Reading. The relaunched platform serves a claimed community of 165,000 subscribers and covers topics ranging from 5G and spectrum auctions to AI-native networks and data centers. In May 2026, MidOcean announced the sale of Questex to funds managed by Apollo Global Management; that transaction closed on July 14, 2026, making Apollo the current ultimate owner. Throughout its history, Fierce Network and its predecessor titles have been recognized by the American Society of Business Publication Editors for editorial quality, and the outlet has maintained a consistent identity as an industry-insider source rather than an advocacy or general-interest publication.
