Fierce Pharma
U.S. B2B pharmaceutical industry trade media
Background
Fierce Pharma launched in August 2007 as a spin-off of FierceBiotech, which itself had pioneered the brief daily newsletter format for life-sciences professionals. The publication started as a five-story digest of the day's pharma business news, then grew into a team of editors working across multiple continents. It sits within the broader 'Fierce' brand network, which now includes FierceBiotech, FierceHealthcare, and several other verticals, all consolidated under Questex. Questex was formed in 2005 from assets acquired out of Advanstar Holdings and was purchased by MidOcean Partners in September 2018; the company currently reports roughly 300 employees and approximately $130 million in annual revenue. Fierce Pharma's editorial coverage spans the full pharmaceutical lifecycle — drug development, FDA regulatory approvals, manufacturing, patent disputes, M&A, and government policy — with a stated goal of explaining not just what happened but why it matters to industry professionals. Because its audience is the pharmaceutical industry itself and its advertisers are largely pharmaceutical and life-sciences companies, it operates closer to trade press than independent journalism; editorial criticism of the industry tends to be measured and framed in business terms. The outlet expanded aggressively into events, and in late 2025 Questex acquired The Conference Forum and Versalinx Global Events to deepen its life-sciences conference footprint.
