Florida's Voice
U.S. right
Background
Florida's Voice was launched in 2021 by Brendon Leslie, a former local TV reporter who had worked at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. Leslie framed the outlet as an alternative to corporate-owned media, aiming to cover Florida politics from a conservative standpoint. The site quickly built ties to Florida's Republican establishment: Governor Ron DeSantis granted it access and formally endorsed the outlet in 2022, while established outlets were often frozen out of DeSantis media events. Leslie was present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and later described his presence as journalistic documentation; he subsequently pursued legal action against The New York Times over how footage he took that day was characterized. He was also photographed wearing insignia associated with the Three Percenters militia group during a DeSantis interview. In December 2024, a former employee filed a police report accusing Leslie of workplace sexual harassment and intimidation, a story reported by competing conservative outlet The Floridian. Media Bias/Fact Check rates Florida's Voice as 'Right' with 'Mixed' factual reporting, citing lack of ownership transparency and occasional promotion of claims at odds with scientific consensus. AllSides independently rates it 'Right.' The outlet's funding relies on advertising, including from 'Patriot-Owned' sponsors, and its full financial structure remains opaque.
