Food Lion
Not applicable — not a news outlet
Background
Food Lion was founded in 1957 in Salisbury, North Carolina, originally as Food Town. It grew into a major regional supermarket chain across states like North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Maryland. In 1983 the Belgian retailer Delhaize Le Lion acquired a controlling stake, and the company was renamed Food Lion. Delhaize Group later merged with Royal Ahold in 2016 to form Ahold Delhaize, which remains Food Lion's parent company today. Food Lion gained national attention in 1992 when ABC's PrimeTime Live aired an undercover investigation (using hidden-camera employees) alleging unsanitary meat-handling practices; Food Lion sued ABC, and the case became a notable press-freedom legal dispute (Food Lion, Inc. v. Capital Cities/ABC, Inc.). Because it is a retail grocery business rather than a media or news outlet, it does not produce news coverage, have an editorial stance, or take a position on U.S. political administrations. Any request to characterize its 'coverage' of the Trump administration does not apply, since Food Lion has no journalistic or editorial function.
