FOX 11 Los Angeles
U.S. center-right (corporate Fox-owned local news; mainstream local-news format)
Background
KTTV began broadcasting on January 1, 1949. It was licensed to the Times-Mirror Company, publisher of the Los Angeles Times, and CBS held a 49% stake until 1951. Metromedia later owned it, and Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation bought it in 1986 as part of the group that launched the Fox network. It has been a Fox owned-and-operated station since then and serves as the network's West Coast flagship. It shares studios on South Bundy Drive with sister station KCOP-TV, which Fox acquired in a later deal. The station runs local newscasts, including a prime-time show, LA Live News Tonight, launched in March 2025, and Good Nite LA at 11 p.m., which is also simulcast on KCOP. Fox Corporation was spun off from 21st Century Fox in 2019 after Disney bought most of the Murdoch media assets. Fox News Channel's right-leaning opinion programming is a separate operation from the local stations, whose newscasts are mainstream local fare. Media-bias raters generally describe the station's local news as only modestly right-leaning, though its ownership ties it to a conservative-leaning corporate parent.
