Fox 13 Tampa
U.S. local TV news, Fox-owned; center to center-right
Background
WTVT signed on April 1, 1955 as a CBS affiliate in Tampa, founded by broadcaster Walter Tison. It was later owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company, then by other groups. In 1994, as part of a deal between New World Communications and Fox, it switched to the Fox network, which happened in 1995-1997. Fox later acquired the station directly, and it has been a Fox-owned station since. The station rebranded as 'Fox 13' and runs local news, morning shows and weather alongside Fox network programming. Because it is a Fox-owned station, it shares a corporate parent with Fox News Channel, but local newsrooms generally operate separately from the cable network's opinion programming. Its recent coverage includes Trump's Florida midterm rallies, his remarks on the Iran war and Strait of Hormuz, and the 2026 elections, which it generally reports as events with sourced quotes. Media-bias raters typically place local TV news like this near the center or slightly right of center, but I did not review many individual stories, so that characterization is approximate.
