Fox LA
U.S. center, local-news
Background
KTTV began broadcasting January 1, 1949, originally licensed to the Times-Mirror Company (publisher of the Los Angeles Times), with early ties to CBS and later the DuMont Television Network. In 1986, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation bought KTTV along with other Metromedia stations as part of building the Fox network's station group, and it became a Fox owned-and-operated station and the West Coast flagship of Fox. It operates in a duopoly with MyNetworkTV station KCOP-TV. Unlike Fox News Channel, which is widely seen as favoring conservative viewpoints and opinion programming, Fox-owned local stations like KTTV run standard local-news formats (news, weather, traffic, crime) without regular opinion segments, and media-bias evaluators have generally rated it near the center with high factual reliability. It remains under the ownership umbrella of Fox Corporation, so it shares a parent company with Fox News but is editorially and operationally distinct from it.
