Background

France 24 launched in December 2006, created by the French government as a state-backed answer to international channels like BBC World News and CNN International, broadcasting in French, English, and Arabic (later adding Spanish). In 2012 it was folded into France Médias Monde alongside Radio France Internationale (RFI) and the Arabic station Monte Carlo Doualiya, unifying France's external public broadcasting under one state holding company.
