Front Office Sports
U.S. center / sports-business trade
Background
Adam White launched Front Office Sports in 2014 as a class project at the University of Miami, building it initially as an email newsletter network covering the business side of sports. The company incorporated and grew through the late 2010s with early backing from SC Holdings, a New York advisory firm. In February 2022, Crain Communications — the trade-media publisher — purchased a roughly 20% stake, valuing the company at about $25 million. In November 2023, RedBird IMI, the joint venture between RedBird Capital Partners and Abu Dhabi's International Media Investments led by former CNN/WarnerMedia chairman Jeff Zucker, acquired a minority position. By October 2024, RedBird IMI had bought out SC Holdings and taken majority control, valuing the company at approximately $40 million. RedBird IMI drew scrutiny in Britain during 2023–2024 over a separate, ultimately failed bid to acquire The Daily Telegraph, with British regulators and lawmakers expressing concern about UAE state influence on editorial independence; those concerns did not surface directly in the Front Office Sports acquisition. The outlet focuses on original reporting, daily newsletters, social-media franchises, and business-of-sports analysis, reaching a claimed 130 million people monthly, and has been named to Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies and AdWeek's Hottest in Sports lists. Its editorial coverage is trade-oriented rather than politically partisan.
