Futu News
Hong Kong/China fintech-aggregator (not an independent editorial outlet)
Background
Futu was founded in 2012 by Leaf Hua Li, a former Tencent employee, and built its brand around low-cost online brokerage services for Chinese and international retail investors, first in Hong Kong and later expanding globally under the Futubull and moomoo platforms. Tencent became an early strategic investor and remains Futu's second-largest shareholder, giving the company access to Tencent's user base and WeChat integration. Futu went public on Nasdaq in 2019. Its 'news' function is a curated/aggregated feed of market data, company announcements, and third-party wire content displayed inside its trading apps to help retail investors make decisions, rather than a staffed editorial operation producing original journalism. The company has faced significant regulatory scrutiny from mainland Chinese authorities, including a 2026 China Securities Regulatory Commission investigation and a proposed roughly $271 million penalty for allegedly operating unlicensed securities business in mainland China, which it has disclosed to investors and faced shareholder lawsuits over. Because it functions primarily as a financial-services company with an in-app content feed rather than a news publisher, it does not have a track record of political editorial slant; its coverage of the Trump administration, to the extent it appears, is limited to market-relevant policy and trade news drawn from wire services.
