The Herald Business
South Korean business press, center-right and pro-market
Background
Herald Corporation dates to 1953, when The Korea Herald's predecessor started. The business paper began as an industry-focused daily, was later bought by the Korea International Trade Association, and became the Herald Business (Herald Economy, 헤럴드경제). In 2002, Ryan Jungwook Hong acquired Herald Corporation and expanded it into other areas, including internet, broadcasting, magazines and education. The group now publishes The Korea Herald, the Korean-language Herald Business, and youth and campus titles. It also publishes English-language business content through The Investor. Choi Jin-young, a former mayor of Namwon and former CEO of Woolim Holdings, became CEO of the group in April 2024. I did not find well-documented editorial controversies, and the search results did not include a review of its coverage of the second Trump administration. Its likely framing is therefore inferred from its business focus: Korea-U.S. trade, tariffs and capital flows, with little partisan U.S. commentary. Note that the name 'Herald Business' is also used by unrelated outlets, so this profile covers the Korean one.
