Indeed Hiring Lab
U.S. corporate research unit (non-ideological)
Background
Indeed Hiring Lab was launched in March 2014 as Indeed's in-house economic research institute, debuting with a report on job-seeker satisfaction led by economist Tara M. Sinclair of George Washington University. It was created to translate the massive volume of data flowing through Indeed's job-search platform into publicly accessible labor-market insights for employers, policymakers, academics, and journalists. Indeed itself had been acquired by Japan's Recruit Co., Ltd. in September 2012 for a reported $1 billion, making Hiring Lab a unit ultimately owned by a Tokyo-based global HR giant. Recruit Holdings later added Glassdoor to its portfolio in 2018, deepening its U.S. labor-market data assets. The Hiring Lab team has grown to include economists stationed in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, France, Japan, and Australia, covering more than 60 labor markets worldwide. Its research relies on anonymized, aggregated data from millions of job postings, résumés, and job-seeker behaviors on Indeed's platform. The unit has no editorial independence from Indeed and operates as a brand-building and thought-leadership vehicle for its parent company rather than as a journalism outlet; it has not been involved in notable editorial controversies.
