Background

JNS was founded in September 2011 in San Diego as a wire service supplying Israel- and Jewish-focused content to Jewish community newspapers and digital outlets across the United States. In its early years it depended heavily on the Adelson Family Foundation, which provided more than $1.2 million between 2013 and 2015 and at one point accounted for nearly two-thirds of annual revenue. The outlet has also received grants from the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation, a pro-Israel philanthropic organization. Media analysts, including Media Bias/Fact Check, rate JNS as right-center in editorial slant, noting editorial positions that consistently favor the Israeli government, frequent use of emotionally loaded language in news copy, and op-eds that critics say denigrate Palestinians. JNS describes its mission as providing Israel and the Jewish community 'a fair shake' against what it frames as mainstream-media bias. By 2024 it claimed to serve more than 100 print and digital outlets worldwide and launched a three-year plan to reduce dependence on large donations by growing subscriptions and advertising. Its coverage of the Trump second term has been favorable, consistent with Trump's strong pro-Israel posture, including coverage of Trump receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Israel Allies Foundation in December 2025.
