Kitco
Pro-gold / precious-metals industry (commercial, market-focused)
Background
Bart Kitner started Kitco in Montreal in 1977, reportedly with a $700 loan, buying scrap gold from jewelers in eastern Canada and refining it for resale. It launched a website in 1995 and a discussion forum in 1997, and its live spot-price pages became a widely used reference for gold and silver quotes. Today it is headquartered in Montreal with offices in New York, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and it describes itself as one of the world's larger precious-metals retailers and a refining supplier. Kitco News publishes daily market reports, technical analysis, interviews with analysts and bank strategists, and surveys of retail and Wall Street sentiment. Regular writers include Neils Christensen and Jim Wyckoff, a veteran commodities journalist. Because the parent business sells precious metals, the site has a commercial interest in gold, and its coverage tends to emphasize bullish price forecasts and safe-haven arguments, such as 2026 pieces on gold targets of $5,000 to $6,000. Its political coverage is limited and framed through markets. Tariffs, Fed rate decisions and fiscal concerns appear as drivers of gold rather than as subjects of partisan commentary, and I found no clear pattern of support for or opposition to the administration.
