Background

KSL's broadcasting roots date to May 6, 1922, when the Deseret News launched a Salt Lake City radio station under the call letters KZN, with the first broadcast being a talk by then-LDS Church president Heber J. Grant. The station rebranded as KSL in 1924 and remains one of the oldest continuously operating radio stations west of the Mississippi River. KSL entered television broadcasting in 1949, and its TV, radio, and digital operations have all operated under the umbrella of Deseret Management Corporation (DMC), the LDS Church's for-profit holding company established in 1966.
