Latin Times was launched in 2013 by IBT Media, a New York-based digital media company co-founded in 2006 by Etienne Uzac and Johnathan Davis. IBT Media built a portfolio that included International Business Times and, from 2013, Newsweek; the company rebranded as Newsweek Media Group in 2017 before splitting Newsweek off as a separate company in 2018. IBT Media—and by extension Latin Times—has been linked to 'the Community,' a Christian religious network overseen by pastor David Jang, who also founded Olivet University; the connection drew scrutiny from journalists and regulators for years.
