The Libertarian Institute
U.S. libertarian, anti-war non-interventionist
Background
The Libertarian Institute was founded in 2016 by Scott Horton, Sheldon Richmond and Will Grigg. Horton serves as its director and hosts The Scott Horton Show, a long-running interview podcast on foreign policy and war. He is also editorial director of Antiwar.com, a separate site founded in 1995 by Justin Raimondo and Eric Garris. The Institute publishes articles, news items and shows such as The Kyle Anzalone Show. It also publishes books, including Horton's "Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism". Its perspective is consistently non-interventionist: it opposes U.S. wars, military spending and surveillance, and it stresses civil liberties. It shares the anti-war outlook of the wider Antiwar.com and Mises Institute libertarian circles. In 2026 its coverage of Trump has been mostly critical. This follows the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran in February 2026, and its posts have included pieces on the president being 'exasperated' with the war and on his saying it would end 'very shortly' after the midterms. It argues from principle rather than party loyalty, so it has not backed either major party. I found no major documented editorial scandals, but its sourcing is advocacy-oriented and selective.
