Los Angeles Times

U.S. center-left news reporting, with a centrist-to-right-leaning owner-directed opinion section

The Los Angeles Times is owned by billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong. Its newsroom reporting has traditionally leaned center-left, but the owner has intervened in the opinion section in ways that softened or blocked criticism of Donald Trump. Its current posture toward the Trump administration is mixed: news coverage is often critical, while the owner's interventions and some opinion hires push toward a friendlier tone.

Owned byOwned by Patrick Soon-Shiong, a billionaire physician and biotech entrepreneur, through his investment firm NantCapital. He bought it from Tribune Publishing (tronc) in 2018. In 2025 he said he planned to take the paper public through a new company, the L.A. Times Next Network. I did not confirm whether that has happened.
