MacDailyNews (Opinion)
U.S. right-leaning (Apple-centric tech)
Background
MacDailyNews launched in September 2002, created by an anonymous founder who adopted the pen name 'Steve Jack' — a portmanteau of his heroes Steve Jobs and Jack Nicklaus. It quickly established itself as a go-to destination for Apple enthusiasts, aggregating Apple-related news from around the web and appending clearly labeled 'MacDailyNews Take' opinion segments. The site attracted enough traffic to be cited by major outlets including CNet and USA Today, and it developed a reputation for scoops on Apple products. It has always operated independently, without venture funding or acquisition by a larger media company, relying on display advertising and, more recently, reader donations. Editorially, MacDailyNews is firmly pro-Apple and often hostile toward Apple's rivals and critics. Its non-tech commentary — particularly around media bias — has a discernible right-of-center tilt: the site has repeatedly highlighted studies it says show left-wing favoritism in Apple News curation, and it covered Apple's negotiations with the Trump administration's tariff regime in generally straightforward to sympathetic terms. The site draws roughly 1.25 million page views per month from readers in more than 190 countries. As of 2024–2025, it began exploring a subscription model via Substack to reduce dependence on advertising.
