MishTalk (Opinion)
U.S. libertarian-right (economic)
Background
Mike Shedlock launched 'Mish's Global Economic Trend Analysis' in 2005 on Blogger, establishing himself as one of the early voices in financial blogging. He gained wide recognition for calling the top of the U.S. housing bubble in summer 2006 and identifying the stock market bottom in March 2009. In 2009, Time Magazine listed his blog among the Best 25 Financial Blogs, and the New York Times cited him in 2010 alongside prominent economic commentators. The blog migrated from Blogger to its current home at mishtalk.com, rebranded as MishTalk. Shedlock writes from an Austrian School of economics standpoint, consistently opposing Federal Reserve policy, deficit spending, and government market intervention, and has historically expressed support for libertarian political figures such as Ron Paul. He also contributes columns to The Epoch Times. During Trump's second term (2025–2026), Shedlock has been notably critical, publishing pieces such as 'Ten Ways President Trump Is a Threat to the United States' (July 2026) and criticizing Trump's trade war with Canada, Iran policy, and use of the military for political ends. The site has no editorial staff beyond Shedlock himself and carries no disclosed outside funding.
