MS NOW (Opinion)
U.S. left
Background
MSNBC launched in 1996 as a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC, initially mixing news and opinion across the political spectrum. Over the following decade, the channel shifted markedly toward progressive political commentary, becoming a recognized home for left-leaning cable news opinion by the early 2010s. As Comcast reorganized its cable holdings in 2025, MSNBC was grouped into a new publicly traded entity, Versant Media Group, which formally separated from NBCUniversal in January 2026. On November 15, 2025, the network rebranded from MSNBC to MS NOW — an acronym for 'My Source for News, Opinion, and the World' — dropping the NBC peacock logo and moving studios out of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The rebrand prompted widespread mockery of the name, but the network's leadership described it as continuity, not a pivot: the progressive editorial identity remained intact. AllSides rated it Left (−5.08) in its December 2025 Blind Bias Survey. Facing declining cable TV revenues, Versant has been pursuing a streaming service tied to MS NOW expected to launch in mid-2026. The network has continued to air opinion-led coverage critical of the Trump administration, including commentary characterizing administration economic messaging as 'hopelessly out of touch.'
