Background

The National Pulse launched around 2019 as a pro-Trump, nationalist news site led by Raheem Kassam. Kassam is a British-born commentator who previously edited Breitbart London, worked as an aide to Nigel Farage, and has been linked to Steve Bannon's circle. The site presents itself as covering stories mainstream outlets overlook, with a focus on immigration, China, 'globalism', election integrity and cultural issues. It also publishes Kassam's own commentary under the 'KASSAM' banner and promotes his interviews and media appearances. In 2023 it ran a video interview with Donald Trump, which it used to build its profile. The site has promoted partisan and contested claims about Democratic politicians, including questions about their backgrounds and citizenship, and critics describe it as a hyper-partisan advocacy outlet more than a neutral news organization. Its own stated model is independence from advertisers and donors, and it asks readers to pay for membership. Its recent coverage frames Trump administration actions favorably, for example Trump's Iran military action and his and Farage's opposition to the UK's Chagos Islands deal. It also frames critical foreign and mainstream reporting, such as a BBC segment on a Ukrainian soldier criticizing the administration, as biased.
