NC Political News was founded in early 2013 by Frank Williams, a North Carolina public relations professional and president of Pioneer Strategies, a PR and strategic communications firm. Williams operated the site for roughly seven years before selling it to Magic Mile Media, Inc. in December 2020. Magic Mile Media is a small digital communications and local media company based in Kinston, NC, and is run by BJ Murphy, who served as mayor of Kinston from approximately 2009 to 2017 and has described himself as a practical Republican focused on conservative fiscal principles. Murphy also publishes the Neuse News, a hyper-local eastern NC outlet. In December 2025, Murphy filed to run for Lenoir County Commissioner as a Republican, further marking his partisan affiliation. The outlet covers North Carolina state government, legislation, courts, and policy, primarily through daily political news briefs and republished columns.
