Background

News India Times was launched in 1975, making it one of the oldest Indian-American English-language newspapers in the United States; it was founded to report on issues affecting the Indian diaspora and to shape American perceptions of India. The paper is now published by Parikh Worldwide Media LLC, a company formally organized around 2008 by Dr. Sudhir M. Parikh, a Gujarati-born allergist who built the largest allergy and immunology practice on the U.S. East Coast. Under Parikh's stewardship, the paper became the flagship of what grew into the largest Indian-American media group in the country, which also publishes Desi Talk (New York and Chicago editions), Gujarat Times (a Gujarati-language weekly), and The Indian American magazine. In 2018, Parikh Worldwide Media expanded further by acquiring ITV Gold, a New York-based 24/7 cable television channel serving the Indian and South Asian diaspora, solidifying the group's position as the dominant Indian-American media house. The Government of India honored Dr. Parikh with the Padma Shri — the country's fourth-highest civilian award — in 2010, reflecting his close ties to Indian government and cultural institutions. Editorially, News India Times is a community advocacy paper: it highlights diaspora achievements, covers India-U.S. diplomatic and trade developments, and reports on immigration policy issues such as H-1B visas that directly affect its readers. It does not follow a conventional American left-right political axis; its orientation is better described as pro-Indian-American community and broadly favorable toward strong India-U.S. ties.
