Nexstar Media Group
U.S. center to center-right
Nexstar Media Group is the largest local television station owner in the United States, a publicly traded company that operates roughly 197 full-power stations reaching about 70% of U.S. TV households, along with the cable news network NewsNation. Its local stations have historically emphasized local news with a broadly centrist orientation, but its cable news arm NewsNation has shifted noticeably rightward since 2025. Nexstar has actively courted the Trump administration — hiring Trump-connected lobbyists and openly praising the president — in pursuit of regulatory approval for its proposed merger with Tegna.
Owned byPublicly traded corporation (NASDAQ: NXST); no single controlling shareholder. Chairman and CEO Perry A. Sook is a key insider. Largest institutional holders include major index and asset managers. Nexstar agreed in August 2025 to acquire rival Tegna for $6.2 billion, pending FCC approval.
