Background

NTD was founded in 2001 by Falun Gong practitioners, many of them Chinese-American. It began as a Chinese-language broadcaster, partly to cover topics censored in mainland China, including the persecution of Falun Gong. It later expanded to English-language news and streaming through NTD+ and NTD America, based in New York. Its output has centered on criticism of the Chinese Communist Party, and its U.S. coverage has moved steadily toward conservative and pro-Trump framing. It was among the outlets that gave heavy airtime to claims about the 2020 election, and researchers and reporters have linked the Epoch network to QAnon-adjacent and other conspiracy content. Independent reviewers such as Media Bias/Fact Check rate it as right-leaning with mixed factual reliability. Its tie to the Falun Gong religious movement and to Epoch Media Group's financing has drawn scrutiny. Its 2026 coverage includes live special programming on Trump's State of the Union address and midterm election coverage, and it generally presents administration policies on immigration, farming, fraud and foreign policy in a favorable light.
