Background

Ted Budd, a former gun-store owner from Davie County, North Carolina, was first elected to the U.S. House in 2016 and won a U.S. Senate seat in 2022 with Donald Trump's primary endorsement, which helped him defeat establishment-backed rivals. He took office in January 2023 and is up for reelection in 2028. His Senate office issues press releases, statements, and newsletters that function as political communications: promoting his legislative priorities, casework, and public appearances, and criticizing opponents. In April 2023 he became one of the earliest Senate endorsers of Trump's 2024 campaign, and through 2025-2026 he has voted in line with the administration's stated positions on nearly every roll call, with Senate records showing only one notable departure (opposing the confirmation of Labor Secretary nominee Lori Chavez-DeRemer). As a sitting senator's office, its materials are inherently one-sided advocacy for his record and the Republican/Trump agenda, and should not be treated as independent reporting.
