Background

Our Sunday Visitor was founded in 1912 by Father (later Bishop) John F. Noll as a weekly Catholic newspaper and grew into one of the largest Catholic publishing and parish-services companies in the U.S. In mid-2022 the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops announced it would end the domestic reporting operations of Catholic News Service (CNS), which had served as the main wire service for American Catholic newspapers since 1920. OSV struck a deal with the USCCB to acquire CNS's domestic distribution platform, digital archive, and client relationships, launching OSV News on January 1, 2023, as CNS's successor; CNS's Rome bureau continued operating separately and still supplies Vatican coverage to OSV News subscribers. OSV News serves diocesan newspapers and Catholic outlets nationwide with reporting on the Vatican, U.S. bishops, church policy, and news of interest to Catholics.
