PJ Media (Opinion)
U.S. right
Background
PJ Media was founded in 2004 as Pajamas Media by blogger Charles Johnson and novelist-screenwriter Roger L. Simon, with early venture capital backing from tech entrepreneur and billionaire Aubrey Chernick. The outlet launched as a network aggregating conservative and libertarian bloggers who aimed to challenge what they saw as a left-leaning mainstream press. In 2008 it spun up PJTV, an online video channel, but that venture was shuttered by around 2013. The site rebranded from Pajamas Media to PJ Media and continued publishing opinion-driven content on politics, culture, and national security; Simon served as CEO and later CEO Emeritus. Salem Media Group, a publicly traded company specializing in Christian and conservative media, acquired PJ Media in March 2019 and folded it into its Townhall Media digital portfolio. Media watchdogs such as Media Bias/Fact Check rate PJ Media as far right in orientation and have noted mixed factual reliability, citing content that blends opinion with news framing and items that have failed independent fact checks. The site's recent output under the second Trump term reflects a consistently favorable posture toward administration policies and personnel.
