WJZY signed on in 1988 and spent years as an independent and later UPN/MyNetworkTV station before Fox Television Stations bought it in 2013 and rebranded it 'Fox 46 Charlotte.' In 2015, Fox swapped WJZY (along with sister station WMYT) to Nexstar Media Group as part of a multi-station deal, and Nexstar has owned it since, while it remained a Fox network affiliate.
