U.S. center-left business news (global business focus)
Background
Quartz launched in 2012 as a digital-only business site from Atlantic Media, aimed at global executives. It became known for short, data-driven stories and an international outlook. Atlantic Media sold it in 2018 to Japan's Uzabase for a reported $75–110 million. Uzabase's management sold it back to Quartz's own leadership in 2020. In 2022 it was sold to G/O Media for a reported sum under $10 million. In 2025 Redbrick bought it, and almost all of the small newsroom was laid off (reported as 10 of 12 staff). Under G/O Media, Quartz published AI-generated articles under a 'Quartz Intelligence Newsroom' byline, which drew criticism from other media outlets. Press Gazette reported in 2026 that the site was largely produced by one AI-assisted writer posting 50+ stories a day. Its past work was generally rated center to center-left by bias raters, with a pro-market, globalist tone. Today it functions more as a content aggregator than a distinctive editorial voice.
