Radio Free Asia is a nonprofit news service created by Congress and funded by the U.S. government. It reports on countries with restricted media, such as China, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Its coverage is focused on Asia and not on U.S. partisan politics, so it is mostly neutral toward the Trump administration. The administration itself has been a major adversary of RFA's funding.
Owned byRadio Free Asia is a private, nonprofit corporation set up under the International Broadcasting Act of 1994 and incorporated in 1996. It is not a federal agency. It operates as a grantee of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees U.S. international broadcasting. A board appointed through the USAGM structure oversees it.
